Rayo Vallecano - Atletico Madrid Betting Preview: Why at least three goals will be scored tonight

Spanish football expert Phil Kitromilides believes another high scoring Madrid derby between these two sides is on the cards this evening and is backing over 2.5 goals
After claiming the Spanish Super Cup on Friday night with a famous 2-1 aggregate win over rivals Real Madrid, La Liga champions Atletico get the defence of their title underway this evening with another cross-city clash against Rayo Vallecano.

Paddy Power offer Atleti at 1/2 (1.50) to claim all three points at the Estadio Vallecas while the hosts can be backed at 11/2 (6.50) and the draw is offered at 16/5 (4.20).

In many ways this fixture is a clash of styles with Rayo well known for their expansive, attacking play and Atletico so good at containing and restricting opponents.

That difference in approach usually makes for an entertaining spectacle and certainly last season's 4-2 win for Diego Simeone's men in the corresponding fixture was a memorable one.

While Atletico's matches do not often see many goals, Rayo are an almost unique side in that their manager Paco Jemez will encourage his team to swarm forward even if they are being thrashed.

The man from Gran Canaria famously once said "if you're going to lose 2-0 you might as well lose 4-0" alluding to the fact that he wants his team to always go forward and pressure the opposition.

To this end then the price of 4/5 (1.80) for over 2.5 goals looks to be an excellent option. Indeed it has comfortably paid out in each of the teams' last four meetings and in five of their last six encounters since Rayo returned to the top flight.

Last season 14 of Rayo's 19 home games in La Liga saw over 2.5 goals and a repeat this evening would appear to be a shrewd selection.
