thumbnail Hello,

Our Spanish expert Phil Kitromilides believes the European champions will be too strong for Sevilla but still expects the side from Andalusia to get on the scoresheet

The Uefa Super Cup is often treated with mild indifference by English clubs and fans, viewed as little more than a pre-season friendly.

On the continent however, a great deal of significance is placed on this meeting of two European champions with another title very much on the line.

Both Real Madrid and Sevilla will be fully focussed on winning the trophy with Tuesday's game much more than just a pre-season run out in Cardiff.

Paddy Power make the Champions League winners the  clear favorites with Madrid offered at 4/9 (1.44) while the champions of the Europa League, Sevilla, can be backed at 6/1 (7.00) with the draw offered at 7/2 (4.50).

In terms of victories it was all square between these two teams last season with Madrid winning at the Bernabeu but Sevilla triumphing 2-1 at the Sanchez Pizjuan, although the aggregate score was clearly in Los Blancos' favour given their 7-3 success at home.

The point being that this fixtures tends to serve up plenty of goals with six of the last seven encounters seeing over 2.5 goals scored.

That might go some way to explaining the price of 4/9 (1.44) for at least three goals to be scored in Cardiff.

Slightly bigger odds can be found by backing both teams to score at 8/13 (1.62) a selection that has also paid out in six of the sides' last seven meetings, yet for most punters that price is too small.

Instead a more attractive option looks to be investing in Madrid to win and both teams to score available
at the extremely healthy looking price of 13/8 (2.62).

This bet has proved the correct selection the last three times that the teams have met and makes sense; both teams have goals in them, but Madrid undoubtedly are stronger and should prevail in the long run.
