Betting Special: Hazard heads up PFA Player of the Year market

Following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona this summer, our tipster looks at who could follow in the Uruguayan's footsteps by picking up the PFA Player of the Year award
The Premier League season restarts in less than two weeks and, despite the absence of 2014 PFA Player of the Year Luis Suarez from the top flight this term, there are a number of big names all vying to claim the former Liverpool striker’s crown as the league’s top player.

The favourite to claim the prize this year is Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard. The 23-year-old Belgian star was not at his explosive best at the World Cup but is sure to be a pivotal figure for Jose Mourinho’s side this term as they look to wrestle the Premier League title from Manchester City.

PFA Player of the Year 2014/15

Odds from Paddy Power
Eden Hazard 9/2
Wayne Rooney 8/1
Yaya Toure 9/1
Sergio Aguero 10/1
Robin Van Persie 12/1
Alexis Sanchez 12/1
Hazard has been something of a stalwart for the Blues in two seasons at Stamford Bridge and, therefore, it is little wonder that the playmaker is available at just 9/2 (5.50) with Paddy Power to be voted as the PFA Player of the Year for the upcoming campaign.

Another man who failed to shine at World Cup 2014 but will be hoping for a fine domestic season is Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

Rooney scored 17 goals in 29 league appearances for the Red Devils last term and the 28-year-old may be inspired onto even greater things this term following the appointment of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager.

Should Rooney find his best form in the season ahead, the juicy 8/1 (9.0) quote from Paddy Power for the England striker to be named as the PFA Player of the Year would certainly carry plenty of appeal for punters.

Rooney’s strike partner Robin van Persie may well be boosted by the appointment of his former national team coach as his new club manager and, if Van Persie can find the form and fitness that he exhibited during his first season at Old Trafford, the 12/1 (13.0) quote from Paddy Power for the Dutch striker to be named as PFA Player of the Year would surely prove popular.

Manchester City’s mercurial Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure could well have scooped this prize last season but for Suarez’s exceptional form over the course of the campaign and, in the absence of the Uruguayan from the field, Yaya looks to be great value at 9/1 (10.0) with Paddy Power to make amends this term.

The 10/1 (11.0) quote from the same firm for Yaya’s team-mate, Sergio Aguero, could be good value if the Argentine striker can remain fit throughout the campaign.

Arsenal’s capture of Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez appears to be a shrewd bit of business and, should the former Barcelona striker hit the ground running, he could well be a solid contender for the PFA prize at a juicy 12/1 (13.0).

With so many star names in the Premier League, this looks to be a tight market and shrewd punters may well pick up a solid selection at a juicy price here.
