thumbnail Hello,

France and the Super Eagles meet in Brasilia, with Didier Deschamps looking to unleash his all star strike-force and our tipster takes a look at how many they may net

In their two opening World Cup matches, France were sensational in front of goal, finding the net for fun.

Three goals were scored in their opening game against Honduras, with Les Bleus eclipsing that total against a usually solid Switzerland unit, netting five goals courtesy of five different scorers. With Nigeria standing firm in their opening two matches, conceding no goals, will they be able to show the same resistance that will undoubably be needed when they face France in the round of 16?

The Super Eagles come into this match after putting up a good fight against Argentina in their final group match. Knowing qualification was all but secured, they had the freedom to try and attack Argentina, but found themselves an early goal down.

After responding immediately to level, Nigeria eventually conceded two more goals to lose 3-2. With France likely to cause more of a threat than Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina, will they be able to hold firm? William Hill price them at 5/1 (6.00) to keep a clean sheet.

France unsurprisingly are 1/9 (1.11) to score, with Deschamps' men deadly in front of goal in recent months, despite drawing a blank against Ecuador last time out. With only a point needed for France in their final group match, they were perhaps a little reserved in that fixture.

Les Bleus have managed to score two or more goals in nine of their last 12 fixtures, with William Hill pricing this at 6/10 (1.60).

With the likes of Karim Benzema, Oliver Giroud and Antoine Griezmann in attack, they boast one of the strongest forward lines in Europe. Looking at the over 1.5 France goals bet, it's worth noting that USA and Scotland managed to score two goals each against the Super Eagles in the build up to the World Cup.

With little value to be found in this price, it may be worth siding with the French to score three or more goals at 15/8 (2.88) with William Hill. This would have landed in two or their World Cup games so far, as well as against Nigeria in their last group match.

Despite appearing strong in defence at the start of the World Cup, with their opposition lacking in attacking presence, it's not worth reading too much into those clean sheets. Punters should take confidence from their previous display, which saw Argentina exploiting their defence.
