With Luis Suarez likely to start for Oscar Tabarez's men, Los Charruas will have their main goal threat back in their starting line up. England, meanwhile, will be hoping Manchester United's Wayne Rooney can overcome the criticism surrounding his performances and break his World Cup hoodoo.
Looking at the goalscorer market, it's Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge who is favourite to break the deadlock at 11/2 (6.50). Sturridge was on target for England against Italy last week, coming alive in the box to convert Rooney's cross. Paddy Power price him at 7/4 (2.75) to net anytime.
His strike partner at Liverpool, Luis Suarez is the second favourite at 6/1 (7.00) with Paddy Power to score first and 15/8 (2.88) to net anytime.
Suarez will be raring to go after returning from injury and missing Uruguay's match against Costa Rica. As well as being deadly in the Premier League, Suarez made a huge impact for Los Charruas in qualification, netting 11 goals in 14 appearances but questions remain about his fitness based on the fact he has not been involved since having a minor operation a few weeks ago and missing the majority of the build up to the campaign.
Rooney 13/2 (7.50) and Edinson Cavani 7/1 (8.00) follow the two Liverpool strikers in the market, with the former desperate to score the first World Cup goal of his career. Despite a strong qualification showing, the United man has failed to deliver on the World Cup stage but he may benefit from being deployed in a more central role in this game. In contrast, Cavani netted Uruguay's only goal against Costa Rica, confidently dispatching a penalty.
Instead of backing the strikers in this fixture, the real value lies within England's centre-back pairing. Uruguay will be missing their captain and centre-back Diego Lugano for this match, and with his possible replacements not having much game time this season, there will be a chance to exploit their defence at set pieces.
Against Costa Rica, Uruguay looked very unsure from set plays, conceding a goal and almost being punished more than once, especially at the far post which is usually occupied by Gary Cahill for England.
The Chelsea defender makes his presence known in the area for attacking set plays, and the price of him to net anytime at 9/1 (10.00) with Paddy Power is certainly worth a small investment.
Cahill netted in one of England's preparation matches, and with his mistake letting Mario Balotelli net the winner for Italy last week, he will be keen to atone for his error this evening.
