thumbnail Hello,

The Barcelona man got off to a flying start in the opening game and from pre-tournament quotes of 12/1 he is now as short as 11/4 to finish top of the scoring charts

The pre-tournament talk was of the immense pressure on the shoulders of the face of football in Brazil, the poster boy for the World Cup, Neymar.

The 22-year-old gave the perfect answer to the questions posed by his critics finding the net twice against Croatia in Sao Paulo and bet365 now make him the 11/4 (3.75) favourite to claim the top goalscorer award for the tournament.

It was a game that ebbed and flowed with the 12/1 pre-match underdogs taking a surprise lead after Marcelo was unable to divert a cross which was flicked on by Olic anywhere but past Julio Cesar and into the Brazilian net.

Neymar was then booked after a clash with Luka Modric where he caught the Real Madrid midfielder with an elbow but just seconds later he fired Brazil level from long range with a low drive which left Croatian goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa stranded.

As the game wore on Brazil began to look a little frustrated, struggling to create clear cut chances going forward. Oscar was always the bright spark in midfield but their attacks lacked a little bite until a controversial penalty decision, given for a seemingly very harsh foul on Fred, handed Neymar the chance to put his side in front for the first time.

His penalty could, and maybe should have been saved by Pletikosa as the goalkeeper appeared to have the ball well within his grasp diving to his right but the ball crept inside the post and after Croatia had a goal disallowed as the game drew to a close, Oscar sealed the victory with a low effort from the edge of the area to cap a marvellous display for the Chelsea midfielder.

Brazil have been clipped for outright victory by the bookmakers, now priced at 11/4 (3.75) but the nature of their performance may leave some punters unconvinced about whether or not the Selecao can justify those short quotes.

Neymar has been priced up at 16/1 (17.0) by bet365 to score 10 or more goals in the tournament (excluding penalty shootouts).

Friday's games begin with Mexico v Cameroon, continue with Spain v Netherlands and conclude with Chile v Australia.
