Carlo Ancelotti's side powered past Bayern Muinch in a comprehensive 4-0 win at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday and they are now the bookmakers' short-price favourites
Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola admitted that he failed to utilise the correct tactics for his side and, after a first leg win which was filled with missed chances at the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos made no mistake at the second opportunity. Two goals for Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo completed an emphatic 5-0 aggregate win for Carlo Ancelotti's men.
Such was the dominant performance delivered by the Spaniards, it is nothing more than mere speculation to suggest that the result would have been any different even if the hosts had orchestrated a different game plan - Madrid were simply on another level.
While Atletico Madrid may be 3/10 (1.30) with Paddy Power to claim the Primera Division crown, they are 7/2 (4.50) to get the better of Madrid should the two meet in a mouth-watering European final in Lisbon in May. Chelsea are also 7/2 (4.50) for a second European crown in three years as the bookmakers struggle to split the two sides who played out a 0-0 draw at the Estadio Vicente Calderon in the first legg.
Granted, whichever side prevail in Wednesday's showdown at Stamford Bridge will go into the final a shorter price than 7/2 (4.50) but, after the nature of Madrid's victory, they are worth favourites to secure La Decima.
Jose Mourinho's side are 13/10 (2.30) to get the better of Atletico in 90 minutes and, while the visitors are made 23/10 (3.30) to secure an away win in normal time, the draw trades at 9/4 (3.25) with Paddy Power. The Irish bookmaker cannot split the two sides in terms of qualification, offering 9/10 (1.90) about either side progressing to the final.
Another tight game is expected with both teams to score available at 11/10 (2.10) and the 0-0 scoreline is available at 5/1 (6.0).
With a cagey match in prospect, the best bet could be to back the second half to be the highest scoring at 6/5 (2.20) with Paddy Power. The nature of the first leg suggests that neither side will risk too much in the opening exchanges but, whoever makes the breakthrough, especially if it is Atletico, will be likely to hit the opposition on the counterattack as they chase the game.
Paddy Power are also offering money back on losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles if the match ends in a draw after 90 minutes.
