Valencia - Basel Betting Preview: Solid Swiss can frustrate Spanish side

Murat Yakin's men have a commanding lead after the first leg and our tipster expects the Super League champions to keep things tight when they travel to Spain
Valencia have a mountain to climb if they are to reach the last four of the Europa League at the expense of Basel after suffering a 3-0 reverse at the hands of the Swiss side in last week's first-leg tie.

Juan Antonio Pizzi's men have home advantage for the return leg and can be backed at just 4/7 (1.57) with William Hill to restore some pride with victory here.

Basel were emphatic winners when these sides met at St Jakob Park last weekend and Murat Yakin's men can be backed at a chunky 5/1 (6.0) with William Hill to qualify for the semi-finals in style by beating the Liga side once again. The same firm go 14/5 (3.80) that Thursday's tie ends in stalemate.

The task facing Valencia is undoubtedly huge but Pizzi's side will seek solace from their impressive home record thus far this season.

Valencia have lost just two of their last 15 home matches in all competitions and have found the net in no fewer than 14 of those games.

Basel, though, are unbeaten in eight matches on the road and have not lost an away fixture by a margin greater than two goals since crumbling to a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich back in March 2012.

Therefore, the Swiss side will travel to Spain in confident mood and, having lost just two of their last 27 matches away from home, Yakin's men are capable of keeping things tight here despite a massive injury list.

Valencia have scored just one goal in their last three outings while Basel come into the tie buoyed by five successive clean sheets.

With that in mind, the 19/20 (1.95) quote offered up by William Hill for fewer than three goals to be scored on Thursday certainly carries plenty of appeal while the 11/10 (2.10) quote on offer from the same firm for the home side to score fewer than two goals is also likely to attract plenty of support from punters.

Valencia are likely to play with plenty of passion on Thursday but they may well lack the cutting edge required to trouble Yakin's well-drilled outfit and the 19/20 (1.95) quote on offer from William Hill for fewer than three goals to be scored looks to be a solid selection here.
