Despite one win in their last six matches, Tottenham are still in with a chance of a European spot as they face relegation threatened Sunderland in north London this evening.
The Black Cats sit bottom of the league after Fulham picked up three points on Saturday afternoon, albeit Gus Poyet's men have three games in hand over their relegation rivals. With Manchester United winning at the weekend, Tottenham have been moved down to seventh.
Tim Sherwood's men come into this match after a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool. Spurs didn't put up a fight against the title contenders and the performance - which saw Tottenham concede in just two minutes - drew much criticism from the press.
Despite this result, Spurs have been better at home in recent weeks, winning five of their last seven league games at White Hart Lane in the Premier League. Paddy Power price them at 8/13 (1.62).
Sunderland are in desperate need of points and wins with time running out to save themselves from the drop. Despite having those matches in hand, they will know that on current form, they will not garner enough points to mount a challenge to avoid the drop.
Gus Poyet's men have not won in their last six league games, losing five of those matches. With the likes of Hull City, West Ham and Norwich City beating them in recent weeks, they haven't had the most testing fixture lists and with games against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester City to come, things don't get any easier as they attempt to make up their fixture backlog.
With Spurs in terrible form, it's tough to justify backing them in the handicap market to beat Sunderland. With no value offered backing over 2.5 goals or both teams to score, it's worth exploring the markets to find a price that sticks out.
Spurs have scored 40 league goals this season in their 32 matches so far. Of those goals, 27 of them have been netted in the second half. With Sunderland also scoring over half of their goals in the second half, the bet of most goals to be scored in the second half at even money (2.00) with Paddy Power seems to be the play.
