Wigan Athletic - Leeds United Betting Preview: Expect goals galore at the DW Stadium

With the takeover of the Whites still hanging in the balance, Brian McDermott's side travel to Lancashire looking to stop a run of bad results and our tipster is backing goals
Leeds United travel to Wigan Athletic this weekend in the early kick off in the Championship in turmoil, having lost six of their last seven matches, and still unsure over the proposed takeover from Massimo Cellino which has been blocked by the Football League.

Players were only paid their full salaries for March after the last home game, becasue of the cashflow problems the club are having and there appears a real danger that another financial crisis is looming. With that in mind, it's fair to say actions off the pitch have made an impact on the field, with Leeds struggling for results.

Wigan have turned their fortunes around since the appointment of Uwe Rosler in December. The Latics looked to be settling for a mid table position, but a run of only three defeats in their last 26 has seen them shoot into a playoff position under the former Brentford boss.

Last time out they were moments away from beating runaway leaders Leicester City, only for a late goal from Foxes midfielder Dean Hammond meaning the points were shared. William Hill price Wigan at just 11/20 (1.55) to heap more misery on Leeds.

Brian McDermott's men have only won once away from home in 2014, coming from behind to beat bottom of the league Yeovil Town 2-1 so that price appears to be somewhat justified.

With defeats against lowly Charlton and Doncaster Rovers in their last two games, confidence in the Leeds camp is low, with only 12 points now separating them from the relegation places. William Hill price them at 9/2 (5.50) to win, with the same firm pricing the draw at 11/4 (3.75).

As Leeds are in woeful form, all signs would be pointing at Wigan for the win, but the price of 11/20 (1.55) is too short.

Instead it's worth looking at goals and the both teams to score bet at even money (2.00). Despite their poor form, Leeds haven't struggled for goals, with this bet landing in seven of their last eight games, mainly thanks to striker Ross McCormack who has now moved onto a total of 27 goals. With this bet also paying out in five of Wigan's last six games, is certainly worth backing both teams to score.
