The Black Cats and Hammers meet at the Stadium of Light on Monday evening, with our tipster, Hugh Wilson, backing the home side to pick up three valuable points
After Cardiff City, West Brom and Crystal Palace all picked up points over the weekend, the pressure is on Sunderland to pick up a much-needed win as they face West Ham on Monday. The Black Cats sit four points away from the Baggies in 17th, albeit with two games in hand.
The Hammers could spoil Sunderland's quest for survival, though, coming into this game after beating Hull City at home in midweek. This win followed up three straight defeats for Sam Allardyce's side, who still sit on 34 points but edging closer to the 40-point mark that normally guarantees Premier League survival. Paddy Power price them at 12/5 (3.40) to win.
Gus Poyet has done a solid job since taking over the reigns at Sunderland earlier in the season. However, they are currently on a six-game winless run, losing five of those matches.
Despite this poor form, five of those games were away from the Stadium of Light so they will hope for a much better return from games such as this.
Poyet's men have faired much better in front of their own fans, winning five of their last eight games there. Paddy Power price them at 5/4 (2.20) to take all three points, with the same firm pricing the draw at 11/5 (3.20).
"No" on the both teams to score market is tempting at even money (2.00) with Paddy Power. This would have paid out in six of West Ham's last seven away, as well as three of Sunderland's last four games. However, it is the outright price on Sunderland that stands out as the best bet for this game.
With pressure on them, the Black Cats will know that only victory would be good enough and, after beating the likes of Southampton, Stoke City, Manchester United and Chelsea at home in this campaign so far, they certainly do not struggle in front of their own fans. The price of 5/4 (2.20) about a home win should not be ignored.
