JD looks at the trend of more goals in Serie A this season as well as explaining his two advised selections for this weekend's action in Germany and the Premier LeagueWe had a solid week in the football betting markets which ended in profit. It has been a busy midweek in the football world, with matches in England, Italy and Germany providing us with some good opportunities in the marketplace.
On Friday, the eyes of the world will be on Brazil as the World Cup draw takes place. It will provide us with a clearer picture of the path teams will have to take in their efforts to lift this prestigious trophy.
For bettors it should also allow them a more informed look at how the tournament will shape up in the summer.
Plenty of goals in Italy
Serie A is proving to be one of the most entertaining leagues in Europe. Traditionally, punters see Serie A as a league that is sterile and cautious in nature leading to low-scoring matches.
Defences do not seem to be as good as in previous years in Italy and 50 per cent of matches have gone over 2.5 goals so far this season.
This compares favourably to the Premier League, where 48.6% of matches have gone over 2.5 goals. That said, both of the aforementioned leagues are lagging behind Spain, where 59.3% of matches have had three goals or more.
This weekend, layers have matches at Sassuolo, Cagliari, Sampdoria and Torino priced up at 6/5 (2.20) and more for over 2.5 match goals.
Italy may offer the best value from a betting perspective for goals and it is worth noting in your betting strategy given that you may be able to profit from the historic attitudes which lean towards the under markets.
This weekend's tips
Looking ahead to the weekend, Borussia Monchengladbach are one of the form teams in Europe's top leagues.
They have built up an impressive home record, winning 10 of 12 matches. They host an overrated Schalke side this weekend and look value at 5/4 (2.25) with Bet365 to notch up another home win.
Manchester City and Tottenham are on the road again after midweek away matches. They are away to Southampton and Sunderland respectively who will no doubt offer stern tests considering their goalscoring exploits recently.
One of my favourite strategies is backing teams just to concede. It means that you don't have to worry about final outcomes as long as your team finds the net. Bet365 go 13/10 (2.30) on both Spurs and Manchester City not to keep a clean sheet in their respective matches this weekend.
