Phil Kitromilides believes that backing both teams to score at evens is a shrewd investment for Friday's game, as both sides fight for a place at Brazil next summerA game of monumental significance takes place in Quito this evening, as Ecuador host Uruguay in what looks like being a straight battle for the continent's final automatic World Cup Qualifying place.
The hosts are on a poor run in qualifiers having lost two and drawn two of their last four matches. That dip in form, coupled with three successive wins for Uruguay means that the teams are level on points ahead of this intriguing contest.
A home win is priced by Betway at evens (2.00) which given Ecuador super home record could be generous, while Uruguay (the last team to beat Ecuador in Quito) are offered at 13/5 (3.60).
So in theory an argument could be made for either side, with Ecuador very difficult to beat at home, and an in form Uruguay needing a win to overtake them.
Yet instead of backing either, the price of evens (2.00) for both teams to score looks extremely attractive.
It is five years and 13 matches since Ecuador failed to score in a home qualifier, while Uruguay have scored in each of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
This bet also paid out in the teams' previous meeting last year and given the statistics looks an excellent option at a highly attractive price.
