Sevilla - Atletico Madrid Betting Preview: Why backing under 2.5 goals is the best bet

Our Spanish expert Phil Kitromilides believes Atletico will continue their low scoring form on the road from last season
The most intriguing match of the opening round of fixtures of the season begins on Sunday night and ends on Monday morning. The faintly ludicrous kick off time of 22.00GMT means perhaps fewer people will see this match than it deserves as an optimistic Sevilla side host last season's Copa del Rey winners Atletico.

While Sevilla have sold three of their most influential players in Negredo, Navas and Medel, they have reinforced wisely, bringing in Kevin Gameiro and Carlos Bacca along with Marko Marin from Chelsea and highly rated Spanish youngster Jairo.

Added to that the return of Piotr Trochowski from a knee ligament injury which has been labelled "a new signing" and things could be looking good for Unai Emery's men who are priced at 9/5 (2.80) with William Hill for the win.

Atleti meantime have lost Falcao, but gained David Villa and Leo Baptistao and last season's third placed side can be backed at 6/4 (2.50) to claim all three points.

It should however be pointed out that last season Sevilla were brilliant at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan with only the top three winning more home games. Yet their paltry figure of one away win all season was the lowest in the division.

Atletico meanwhile were strong on the road last season making this game a little tricky to call. However, backing a low scoring encounter seems to make sense and under 2.5 goals is offered at 4/5 (1.80).

While Atleti were successful away from home it was not by playing expansive, attacking football, with Diego Simeone's team churning out some hard fought low scoring results; 13 of their away games last season saw under 2.5 goals.

Sevilla for their part have a number of new attacking players who may take a few games to adjust to the Spanish league, making a low scoring encounter quite probable.
