England-Scotland Betting Preview: Why backing both teams to score looks like a fantastic bet

The old rivals meet for the first time since 1999, as Gordon Strachan brings his side down to Wembley, with our tipster Hugh Wilson backing goals
England and Scotland have waited 14 years to play each other after Scotland beat the Three Lions 1-0 back at the old Wembley in the Euro 2000 qualifying play-off, but that wasn’t enough to over turn a 2-0 deficit in the first leg.

Last time out, Scotland recorded a fantastic victory in their World Cup qualification group, beating Croatia away 1-0.

However, Gordon Strachan’s men will have to wait another few years to qualify for a major tournament, as they sit in fifth position in the group, 14 points behind leaders Belgium after six games.

Strachan took over at the helm back in January and has overseen mixed results, winning two and losing two. The Scots are priced at a long 7/1 (8.00) with BetVictor this evening to win the game.

England come into this fixture after recording three straight draws. Roy Hodgson’s men were less than 10 minute away from beating Brazil at the Maracana, but a late Paulinho goal cancelled out a Wayne Rooney effort and saw the match end 2-2.

The Three Lions have been less impressive in their World Cup qualifying group though, trailing Montenegro by two points.

Although they have a game in hand over the leaders, Hodgson’s men have only recorded three wins from six matches in the group. BetVictor price them at 4/9 (1.44) to win tonight though. The same firm price the draw at 7/2 (4.50).

Although this is a friendly, the rivalry between the sides will undoubtedly mean both managers will take the game very seriously. It could well be a tight affair with under 2.5 goals a possibility, but the price of 20/21 (1.95) doesn’t jump out of the page. However, the both teams to score bet does at 23/20 (2.15) with BetVictor.

When you consider that this would have paid out in six of England’s last seven matches, its certainly worth backing. For those who feel Scotland perhaps don’t have what it takes to score, Strachan’s men have found the net in four of their last five games, including scoring against Croatia and look to have what it takes to breach quite a fragile English backline.
