The Hoops ran out 7-1 winners when these sides met in the cup last month, but Al Hain-Cole expects them to come out on top by a more slender margin on Friday
Assistant manager Robbie Horgan claimed after the embarrassing defeat that last season’s Premier Division runners up could still finish in the top four, but just one win and four league defeats later, the hosts are 7/2 (4.50) underdogs with bet365 to come out on top.
Conversely, that cup victory served to kick The Hoops’ disappointing season into action, and they are favourites at 7/10 (1.70) to pick up their sixth consecutive win.
These sides have drawn 16 of their combined 34 league games so far this season, and you can get odds of 14/5 (3.80) on them sharing the spoils here.
This proliferation of stalemates is largely to blame for the away side’s underwhelming start to the season, particularly after they won just two of their first 11 games, drawing seven.
However, Trevor Croly’s men have recently discovered how to turn one point into three, and will go into this match confident of continuing their fine recent winning streak.
Drogheda, on the other hand, have picked up an unfortunate habit of losing in recent weeks, and have failed to even get on the score sheet in their last two games.
This does not bode well for a clash against the joint best defence in the league, who have kept four clean sheets in their last five games, coming out on top on every occasion.
All things considered, those 7/10 (1.70) odds look too good to pass up on the visitors coming away with maximum points, as they continue to play catch-up with the top four.
However, considering four of those five wins have come by a single goal, another rout seems unlikely, particularly as Mick Cooke’s side have also lost each of their last four league games by that same margin.
With this in mind, odds of 5/2 (3.50) cannot be ignored on the guests winning by one goal on Friday.
