Atletico Madrid-Barcelona Betting Preview: Why backing a Catalan win looks the way to go

With Barca hoping to seal the title, our Spanish expert believes there is value in backing them to win at the Vicente Calderon
This weekend's most attractive fixture in Spain is also the one which could see Barcelona wrap up the league title. Atletico Madrid, for their part, will surely be more focused on Friday night's Copa del Rey final especially seeing as they are now guaranteed to finish in the Champions League spots.

Coral's price of 3/1 (4.00) for Atletico therefore clearly is of no interest but the odds of 10/11 (1.91) for a Barca victory look to hold extraordinary value.

Put simply, seeing Barcelona priced near evens is tempting enough on its own. Seeing them priced near evens against a side whose focus will be elsewhere, who may even field a weakened team and who they have beaten in each of their last five meetings is downright irresistible.

The end of the season has not been great for Barca but winning the title will be a massive consolation and to facilitate that triumph as quickly as possible, the Blaugrana will go all out for the win at the Vicente Calderon.

If we are backing Barca out right to win, that does not mean that it will be necessarily straight forward with this fixture having a history of being a high-scoring encounter.

Indeed backing goals in the first half has proved to be an extremely profitable strategy over the years at the price of 5/1 (6.00) for over 2.5 goals in the opening 45 minutes looks highly tempting.

This may seem like a left-field selection initially but, on closer inspection, it transpires that this bet has paid out an incredible six times in the last nine meetings between the two sides, making it infinitely more attractive.
