JD's Betting Blog: Why early prices often offer the best value

JD has had a successful week and is looking to continue his good form with two tips for the weekend's action, which include Atlanta to get the better of Genoa in Serie A
It has been an excellent week on the football markets with 75 per cent of my selections landing last week to put us in healthy profit for the week. The last seven days has been dominated by European competition and we started well with both teams scoring between Nordsjaelland and Shakhtar Donetsk - advised at evens with Paddy Power.
The advantage of moving early in the markets

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the week was Juventus and their destruction of champions Chelsea, which resulted in the dismissal of Roberto Di Matteo.

They opened up at around 5/4 (2.25) to win this match and they were the subject of major gamble in the days before the match.

At kick off, they were 8/11 (1.73) in places and they duly delivered with a comprehensive 3-0 victory. It does illustrate the importance of moving early in the markets as the value is often to be had on the opening prices.

Indeed, sometimes the movement in the market is so big that an arbitrage opportunity presents itself and you can make a profit regardless of the outcome.

Juventus are as big as 20/1 (21.0) with one firm and no one will fancy playing the Turin giants if they secure their passage into the last 16.

This weekend's tips

Looking ahead to the weekend, high-flying West Brom can be backed at 6/5 (2.20) with Paddy Power on a draw no bet basis to beat Sunderland.

The Baggies have been a revelation this season under Steve Clarke and currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League and look more than capable of getting a positive result against a Black Cats side struggling under Martin O'Neill.

Atalanta have been excellent in Serie A this season too and should get back to winning ways at home to struggling Genoa who have lost six consecutive matches.

They are 17/20 (1.85) with Paddy Power to make it five wins from their last six home matches. The Bergamo side have already beaten Inter and Napoli at home this season and so the visit of a side such as Genoa who are in such poor form should not pose much of a problem.
