The Hammers boast an impressive home record on their return to the Premier League and Adam Bate expects them to pick up three points against travel-sick Stoke
The Hammers’ home record has been a key factor in their promising start. They have lost just once in front of their own fans this season and drew against the champions Manchester City last time out at Upton Park.
West Ham are still – just – odds-against to win this one at 21/20 (2.05) with Paddy Power which looks to be a tempting price given their rich vein of form.
The draw is available at 23/10 (3.15) and that is a distinct possibility given Stoke have drawn more than half of their games this season.
Indeed, the most common Stoke scoreline this season has been 0-0 and with the Hammers also having had two goalless games in the current campaign the price of 7/1 (8.00) for a stalemate could be of interest.
Tony Pulis and his team might well take that. They haven’t had much look away from home but it’s fair to say the Potters haven’t been getting thrashed either.
Stoke drew at Liverpool, conceded a late winner at Chelsea and led at Old Trafford before succumbing to Manchester United. Compared to those fixtures a trip to Upton Park is a real opportunity, despite the home sides impressive run.
Stoke are 11/4 (3.75) with Paddy Power to pick up their first away win of the season here.
In the goalscorer markets, Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan are joint-favourites to make the breakthrough at 5/1 (6.00).
For Stoke, Peter Crouch is a little further out at 9/1 (10.00) despite scoring five goals in his last 10 games. Michael Kightly might also be a tempter for the visitors at 14/1 (15.00) to score first given his flair and direct attacking style of play.
But for the best bets in this game it has to be backing the home side to continue their excellent home form.
West Ham have five clean sheets from 11 Premier League games this season, while Stoke have failed to score in five of their 11.
Those statistics make a persuasive case for the value bet being the 11/5 (3.20) available for West Ham to win to nil in this one.
Indeed, much of the form points to a Hammers win. The only teams to score more than once against them this season are Swansea, Arsenal and Wigan – all passing teams.
Expect Allardyce to have his team well drilled to deal with the more functional threat of Stoke. As a result, the best bet is to take the price of 21/20 (2.05) for West Ham to get the three points here.
