thumbnail Hello,

Wednesday's Bet of the Day: Expect Juventus to defy stereotype with an attacking display at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea begin the defence of their trophy against last season's Italian invincibles, who certainly know where the goal is. Al Hain-Cole expects Vucinic to pose the biggest threat

After winning the Champions League against the odds last season, Chelsea will be hoping to pull off an even bigger shock this season by becoming the first side to retain the trophy since its re-branding.

First though, Roberto Di Matteo's men must concentrate on visitors Juventus, who are unbeaten in 42 Serie A games.

The hosts have not lost any of their last 26 group stage matches at Stamford Bridge in this competition, and won all six of their home ties on the road to glory last season.

With Juventus having lost their last six Champions League games away to English opposition, the omens look good for a Chelsea victory, which is available at 6/5 (2.20) with William Hill.

However, this Bianconeri side are are very different proposition to the one that crashed out of the group stages in their last major European campaign three years ago, and you can back the Italian champions at 13/5 (3.60) to make a winning return to the biggest stage.

The two sides shared a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico when they last met in 2009, and you can get odds of 21/10 (3.10) on another stalemate taking place this evening.

While stereotypes would suggest that we should expect a defensive away performance from the Italian visitors, Juventus have actually scored 21 goals in their last seven league games on the road, winning them all.

The backs to the wall semi-final heroics against Barcelona aside, Chelsea's five other home games in last year's competition featured an entertaining 18 goals, and their 4-1 drubbing by Atletico Madrid in the recent Super Cup will have given Antonio Conte's men encouragement to attack the European champions.

All things considered, odds of 23/20 (2.15) seem decidedly generous for over 2.5 goals to be scored in this game, and should not be missed.

After failing to add main transfer targets Robin van Persie or Fernando Llorente to the side in the summer, Juventus will be relieved to see Mirko Vucinic starting the season in prolific form.

The Montenegro international has stepped up to the plate with three goals in the opening four games this year, and will certainly pose the greatest threat to an unconvincing Chelsea defence.

The former Lecce man is well worth a punt at 10/3 (4.33) to score anytime tonight.
