thumbnail Hello,

After a frustrating opener against his former club, Al Hain-Cole expects the England striker to prove a point this weekend. Elsewhere, it's more of the same for Lambert and Michu

Swansea City
VS
West Ham
Kick off: 12:45 BST
Tip: Michu anytime goalscorer at 7/4 (2.75) with Bet365

The signing of Michu from Rayo Vallecano for a measly £2 million was generally seen as something of a bargain for a player who scored 15 goals in last season’s La Liga, and if he can replicate that total for Swansea then he will be seen as a veritable steal.

The Spaniard is already well on his way after banging in a couple of goals on his debut against QPR, and his prolific pre-season form hints at a profitable debut Premier League season.

Playing in a similar role to the one that saw Gylfi Sigursson hit seven goals in 18 league appearances for the Swans last season, a confident Michu is bound to pose a threat against a newly-promoted West Ham side that travel away from home for the first time this season.

Manchester United
VS
Fulham
Kick-off: 15:00 BST
Tip: Wayne Rooney first goalscorer at 10/3 (4.33) with Bet365

With the arrival of last season’s Premier League top-scorer Robin van Persie putting Wayne Rooney’s performances under increased scrutiny, the former Everton man will be keen to show that he is still the main man for Manchester United in front of goal.

The England striker was below par on a difficult opening night against his former club, but now faces a Fulham side against whom he has scored four goals in his last three league games.

With all the focus on Van Persie, Rooney could well fly under the radar, but the Cottagers would ignore him at their peril. The Red Devils are desperate to record their first win of the season, and their talismanic striker remains the man most likely to get them on their way.

Southampton
VS
Wigan
Kick off: 15:00 BST
Tip: Rickie Lambert anytime goalscorer at 8/5 (2.60) with Bet365

When Rickie Lambert started Southampton’s game at Manchester City on the bench, it was seen by some as tacit recognition of the fact that the prolific lower league goal-scorer was out of his depth at this level. On the contrary, however.

Nigel Adkins' plan to bring the striker off the bench later on in the game against a tiring City defence was completely vindicated when last season’s Championship top-scorer demonstrated his deadly finishing ability with a fine strike, and he should be expected to start in a more manageable game at home to Wigan.

As Grant Holt proved last season, it is possible for lower league strikers to successfully make the transition to England’s elite division, and Lambert is more than capable of following suit.

Having scored almost a third of his side’s league goals last season, the former Bristol Rovers man represents the fulcrum of the Saints’ attack, and will be looking to demonstrate his value on his first Premier League start.
