Goalscorer Tips Betting Preview: New boys to shine on Premier League opening day

Fabio Borini of Liverpool; Lukas Podolski of Arsenal; Mladen Petric of Fulham. Three newcomers to the Premier League who Adam Bate expects to make an instant impact

Tip: Lukas Podolski anytime goalscorer at 21/20 with Bet365

At the time of writing, Bet365 are the only bookie going odds-against for the Germany international to score on his Premier League debut. That’s a great opportunity for the punter to back a proven forward eager to make a good impression.

Podolski has made noises in pre-season about requiring time to get up to speed. But the 27-year-old netted twice against Cologne last week and looks set to step up to the challenge with the imminent exit of Robin van Persie.

With Santi Cazorla now at the Emirates Stadium, there is the creativity in the Arsenal line-up to provide quality service and, with Wes Brown injured and Michael Turner sold, Sunderland might have a weakness that can be exploited at the back.

West Brom
Kick-off: 15:00 BST
Tip: Fabio Borini anytime goalscorer at 8/5 with Bet365

Borini has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence since struggling to earn an opportunity at Chelsea. But Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers recognised the potential in the striker some time ago during a loan spell at Swansea. The 21-year-old will surely be anxious to deliver for a manager with so much faith in him.

The intelligent front-runner is a better player than when Rodgers worked with him as a teenager, having netted seven Serie A goals in 15 starts for Roma last season and become a full Italy international in the process.

A trip to West Brom is not the easiest of openers but Liverpool should be the sharper team having already played competitive football in the Europa League. With the likes of Luis Suarez there to create the chances, Borini should have the opportunity to make it a goalscoring Premier League debut.

Kick off: 15:00 BST
Tip: Mladen Petric first goalscorer at 11/2 with Bet365

There’s a good price available for the 31-year-old Croatia international given his pedigree and form. Petric has been banging in the goals in pre-season netting five goals in four games and has an excellent Bundesliga record with more than 50 goals for Hamburg and Borussia Dortmund in a little over 100 starts.

Fulham boss Martin Jol knows Petric well from his time at Hamburg and the Croat looks to be settling in well. This could be a stronger season for the Cottagers, having retained many of their players and added some fire-power in the form of Petric and Hugo Rodallega.

Norwich on the other hand have endured an underwhelming pre-season under new manager Chris Hughton and it would be little surprise if Fulham open the scoring in this one – can Petric get it?
