Neil Lennon's men will be keen to conclude their pre-season preparations with a win but Willie Duncan thinks that the Hoops may need to settle for a draw against the Italian sideCeltic’s stuttering pre-season form continued in midweek as the Hoops slipped to a disappointing 1-0 reverse at the hands of Norwich City at Celtic Park but Neil Lennon will be hoping for better things when they welcome Inter Milan to Glasgow on Saturday afternoon.
Andrea Stramaccioni’s side began their pre-season preparations with a slender 3-2 victory over Italian minnows Como but will be looking for a stern test from Neil Lennon’s men as they prepare for a trip to Croatia to face Hadjuk Split in the Europa League on Wednesday.
Inter are regarded as favourites to go into that match on the back of a win with William Hill chalking them up at 4/5 (1.80) to defeat Celtic this weekend.
The same firm go 5/2 (3.50) that Celtic win their final friendly before their own European adventure begins with a home tie against HJK Helsinki in the Champions League on Wednesday.
William Hill also offers odds of 5/2 (3.50) that the sides finish level, a price that looks to offer some decent value given both teams will have one eye on their next fixture.
Celtic assistant coach Johan Mjallby admitted in the aftermath of Celtic’s defeat to Norwich in midweek that he was concerned by Celtic’s lack of firepower and the Hoops will hope that striker Gary Hooper, who was the top scorer in the Scottish Premier League last season, has his shooting boots on this weekend.
Hooper is chalked up at 8/1 (9.0) with William Hill to bag the opener against Inter while the same firm offer 11/4 (3.75) that Hooper scores at any time in the match.
Likely strike partner Anthony Stokes is available at 9/1 (10.0) with William Hill to score first while the Republic of Ireland international is 100/30 (4.33), also with William Hill, to score at any time.
Inter, though, have plenty of firepower in their squad. The Italian giants have added former Genoa striker Rodrigo Palacio to their squad and the Argentinian striker is chalked up at 9/2 (5.50) with William Hill to score first.
Palacio's fellow countryman, Diego Milito, is also available at 9/2 (5.50) with William Hill to score first. Both men can be backed at 6/5 (2.20) to score at any time.
Inter’s front men can threaten but, with big European ties just around the corner for both sides, focus may be elsewhere and, subsequently, draw backers may be rewarded here.
