thumbnail Hello,

Jim Jefferies' side need all three points if they are to avoid relegation from the top flight but Willie Duncan expects Pat Fenlon's Hibs to send the Pars down with victory here

Dunfermline Athletic will be relegated from the Scottish Premier League should Jim Jefferies’ Pars side fail to beat relegation rivals Hibernian at Easter Road on Monday night.

Pat Fenlon’s Hibees are looking forward to a historic meeting with capital rivals Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Cup Final on May 19 and will finally be able to focus on that clash should they avoid defeat when Dunfermline visit Edinburgh.

Hibs’ home form has been woeful this term, the Hibees winning just one of their 18 previous home league fixtures at Easter Road but, nevertheless, Sportingbet make them 4/5 (1.80) favourites to secure their Premier League status with a win here.

Dunfermline Athletic, though, are showing real fight in the battle to beat the drop. They have collected four points from their last two fixtures and recorded back to back clean sheets for the first time this season in doing so. The Pars won 1-0 the last time that they visited Easter Road and they are chalked up at 100/30 (4.33) with Sportingbet to grab an essential victory while the same firm make the draw a 5/2 (3.50) shot.

Dunfermline adopted a cautious approach against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in midweek but Jim Jefferies knows that his side must be more attack-minded here and that could leave the Pars vulnerable to Hibs’ dangerous strike pairing of Garry O’Connor and Leigh Griffiths.

A 1-0 victory for Hibs is priced up at 6/1 (7.0) with Sportingbet but given that the Hibs defence is somewhat susceptible to conceding goals, the 13/2 (7.50) for a 2-1 victory for the Easter Road men carries more appeal here.

Both sides have leaked goals this season with Hibs conceding 65 league goals and Dunfermline losing 76 goals and with the Pars desperate for victory, the 4/6 (1.66) for both teams to score looks like an obvious play here.

However, the pressure is all on Dunfermline here and Hibs can banish their poor away form to grab the victory that will consign the Pars to First Division football next season and the 4/5 (1.80) for a home win is the best bet here.
