It’s the Black Country derby on Sunday as Wolves take on West Brom at Molineux. The visitors are in danger of being dragged into the relegation mire with only QPR separating the Baggies in the Premier League table from their local rivals Wolves, who are already right in the thick of it.
Mick McCarthy’s side go into this derby on the back of a dismal run of form that was only broken thanks to a helping hand from Djibril Cisse – to Roger Johnson’s throat that is.
Last weekend’s victory against QPR was Wolves’ first anywhere since the start of December and lifted McCarthy’s men clear of the drop zone.
It also lifted some of the pressure that has been building on the beleaguered boss during a run of three consecutive home defeats. Wolves can be backed to win this one at 25/18 (2.39) with 188Bet.
Albion supporters would also like to see better results at the Hawthorns where they have picked up just one Premier League win since disposing of Wolves in November.
But they will surely be grateful for their much-improved away form when they visit Molineux on Sunday. Albion’s tally of 18 points won on their travels hints at a team set up for the speedy counter-attack and that could prove to be Wolves’ undoing.
It certainly proved decisive in Wolves’ last home game against Liverpool in which two of the goals came from fast breaks for the visitors. The bet of the day is for West Brom to pick Wolves off on the counter-attack and secure their sixth away win of the current campaign. A West Brom victory is available at 7/4 (2.75) with 188Bet, a handsome price for punters looking for a solid, well priced selection.
For the value bet it is important to look at the timing of the goals from these two teams. While Wolves are the only Premier League team not to score in the first 15 minutes and have conceded more than any other side in that time, only Manchester United and Tottenham have scored more goals in the first quarter of an hour than West Brom.
As a result, the smart money is on the Baggies to net the first goal.
Nine of Peter Odemwingie’s 20 Albion goals have been the first of the game and the Nigerian has scored in each of his last two games against Wolves. Odemwingie can be backed to score first here at 13/2 (7.5) with 188Bet.
