Despite their off-field problems, Michael Appleton’s Portsmouth team have been competing well recently.

Unfortunately, Pompey ran into the Championship’s form team, Birmingham, earlier in the week and now face a similarly daunting trip to Blackpool on Saturday evening. Portsmouth are 7/2 (4.5) outsiders with Bet365 to sneak a win at Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool are the only team in the Championship to have won their last three league games and go into this one full of confidence after dumping Sheffield Wednesday out of the FA Cup on Tuesday.

Things are tight at the top of the table and while the Tangerines will need to keep winning to ensure a play-off place, hopes of automatic promotion are alive again after Southampton’s recent slump. Ian Holloway’s men can be backed at 8/11 (1.73) with Bet365 to get the three points.

Blackpool should have enough to squeeze a win from this game. But for the Bet of the Day, there is an opportunity to be a little more specific. Six of Blackpool’s nine home victories in the league this season have come by a solitary goal.

Meanwhile, a whopping seven of Portsmouth’s nine defeats on the road have been by just one goal – including all four of their league defeats anywhere since Christmas. As a result, the Bet of the Day is to back Blackpool to win by one goal at 13/5 (3.6) with Bet365.

For the value bet in this one, it’s essential to factor in the old maestro Kevin Phillips. The 38-year-old striker is proving a real talisman for Holloway’s side. In Blackpool’s last four league games, the team has been losing when Phillips came on as a substitute but have gone on to pick up 10 points in those matches.

Phillips has even scored in three of them. The value bet is Kevin Phillips last goalscorer at 5/1 (6.0) with Bet365 which looks more than generous considering his recent form.
