We are already into February of 2012 after a mixed January full of plenty of ups and downs. There were some weeks where nearly everything went perfect and we made some good returns, followed by weeks were you think the betting Gods have conspired against you.
Such is the world of football betting it was dramatic, exciting, often frustrating but never dull.
This month I will be aiming for stronger consistency so we can start making some consistent returns. This week has started quite well with two out of three betting ventures proving fruitful in the form of Nottingham Forest and a "Both Teams to Score" double.
JD on the Result/Total Goals market
Last week I focused on the angle of backing teams to win but conceding in the process. A slight variation of that is the result/total goals market where a team will win and you are confident that it will be a high scoring match or even a low scoring match.
You can bet accordingly and increase your returns. A good example of this is the performance of Man City at home this season. They have played 11 league matches at home and won every one of them. In nine of those matches, the total goals went over the 2.5 line.
Looking at their fixture against Fulham this weekend, the hosts are around 3/10 (1.30) in places to win, which is very short. An alternative approach would be to back Man City to win with over 2.5 match goals. Based on their flawless home form and that nine of their 11 home games have gone over 2.5 goals, it is a fair assumption this selection is a good one and the price is 4/5 (1.80) with William Hill.
JD on this weekend's action
This weekend, we have some great matches to look forward to particularly In Italy and England. Serie A has been very interesting and entertaining at times this season. Genoa and Palermo have been involved in high scoring games recently with Palermo drawing 4-4 with Inter Milan midweek being a highlight.
They host Lazio and Atalanta respectively and I like the look of all 4 teams to score. It is effectively a both teams to score double and you can get it for around 3.11 or just over 2/1 with William Hill.
The advantage with this selection is that you are not concerned who wins, as long as all 4 teams find the net. The attractive odds enables you to keep your stake low too. I also like Middlesbrough to beat Crystal Palace in the English Championship priced at around 3/4 (1.75)
