Premier League Top Goalscorer: Robin van Persie leads the way while Demba Ba could be value at 10/1

Arsenal's star forward is the favourite to claim the award but with his questionable injury record could another contender end up on top of the scoring charts?

The race at the top of the goalscoring charts is an interesting one with various factors at work. Robin van Persie is currently sitting pretty on 18 goals – three clear of Demba Ba, who is away on international duty for much of the next month at the African Cup of Nations.

That gives Van Persie the opportunity to extend his lead in the coming weeks and, with games lined up at Bolton and at home to a Blackburn side that has yet to keep a clean sheet this season, he will surely make the most of it. Van Persie can be backed at 9/10 (1.9) with 188Bet.

This season the Dutchman has been injury free which has seen him fulfil his goal scoring potential. However, in the previous five seasons, Van Persie has only passed the 35-game mark for club and country on one occasion.

He has already played 31 matches this season and, with a mooted summer move as well as Euro 2012 on the horizon, it would almost be a surprise to see him play through uninterrupted until the end of the campaign.

Any loss of fitness and form could well be capitalised upon by the chasing pack with 14-goal Sergio Aguero available at 40/17 (3.35) with 188Bet. Aguero has been a little hit and miss of late, wasting a plethora of chances at Wigan. But the diminutive Argentine striker has a hunger for goals and will be assured of good service at Manchester City.

If there is anything holding back Aguero it is the amount of minutes on the pitch he will be granted, and it is here that we come back to Newcastle’s talisman Demba Ba.

If the 15-goal Senegal man is still in the race when he returns from international duty, his remaining fixtures include matches against Norwich, West Brom, Bolton, Wigan and Swansea. As such, Ba is still the value bet at 10/1 (11.0) with 188Bet.

Robin van Persie top Premier League scorer at 9/10 (1.9) with 188Bet

Sergio Aguero top Premier League scorer at 40/17 (3.35) with 188Bet

Demba Ba top Premier League scorer at 10/1 (11.0) with 188Bet
