First legs of qualifying round provide plenty of betting opportunities
Five Champions League first leg qualifiers are on the agenda on Tuesday with no shortage of fascinating ties. Let's take a look at the odds for the matches:
From Russia With Love
* Zenit St Petersburg 1.56, Draw 3.63, Auxerre 5.11
A trip to Russia is no picnic at any time of the year and Auxerre have their work cut out to emerge with anything from this match. Luciano Spalletti's charges are romping away with the Russian Premier League and remain unbeaten 16 games in. Auxerre have had an indifferent start to Ligue 1 drawing their opening two games.
* Zenit have lost just twice at home in their last 29 games in Europe.
Goal.com's Robin Bairner - French Football Expert
"All signs point to a Zenit victory and it’s hard to go against that. If Auxerre can keep this close enough so that they have half a chance in the return leg they’ll probably be happy, and a draw would be a dream result. Luciano Spalletti will want his side to be able to cruise in France, though he will be aware that ideal scenario won’t be easy to create."
Prediction: Zenit 2-0 Auxerre
Odds on 2-0 Zenit win: 6.44
Young Boys Will Need To Grow Up Fast
Match Odds: Young Boys 4.33, Draw 3.54, Tottenham 1.67
For the first time since Everton in the 2005-06 season a side other than England's so called 'big four' has a crack at the Champions League. Tottenham Hotspur will hope to do better than the Merseysiders who were eliminated in the qualifying round by Villarreal 4-2.
The draw has been favourable to the Premier League club who are a decent price at 1.67 to win. Young Boys caused a surprise in the previous round by knocking out Fenerbahce 3-2 on aggregate after drawing the first leg 2-2 on the astroturf in Bern. So far they have yet to get into their stride and languish near the foot of the Swiss league with just a single win in five.
Spurs did everything but score against big spending Manchester City on Saturday. Expect them to make up for that in Switzerland.
Sheva's Return To The Big Time?
Match Odds: Dynamo Kyiv 1.90, Draw 3.21, Ajax 3.65
Andriy Shevchenko's Kyiv are looking for a fifth straight passage to the group stage. The Ukrainians aren't the force they were at home losing eight and drawing three of their last 16 matches at the Lobanovsky. Ajax overcame a scare against PAOK to emerge victorious on away goals as Martin Jol looks to take his side into the group stage for the first time in five years.
Both teams have plenty of goals in them. Seven of Dynamo's last eight games have gone over 2.5 goals. Ajax have scored over 2.5 goals in four of their last six games also.
* Over 2.5 goals - 1.99
Match Odds: Rosenborg 2.08, Draw 3.16, Copenhagen 3.20
Nordic pride is at stake as the champions of Norway and Denmark scrap it out. There is little to choose between the sides who are both top of their domestic leagues. Rosenborg remain unbeaten 20 games in, Copenhagen have made their best ever start winning four and drawing the other. Just to add extra spice Copenhagen's manager Stale Solbakken is a Norwegian and he will have his team set up not to concede as they did in their first leg against Bate in the last round.
Don't be surprised if this one ends in a draw with not many goals in it.
* Under 2.5 goals - 1.88
Czech versus Slovak
Match Odds: Sparta Prague 1.56, Draw 3.50, Zilina 5.36
Sparks look set to fly in the Czech capital for the meeting of these domestic champions. Sparta's title defence hasn't gone smoothly, losing two of their opening five including an opening day defeat to a newly promoted team. Slovak title holders Zilina have a proud record against Czech opposition having never lost in five European matches against opponents from across the border. They drew away from home with Bulgarian team Lovech in the first leg of the last round. A draw isn't beyond them and if you're feeling brave consider the following:
* Double chance - Zilina or draw match - 2.14
