Bet of the Day: Sligo take on Dundalk in tasty Irish encounter
A treat in store at the Showgrounds...
By Patrick Reilly
Friendly games can only entertain you for so long so we cross over to Ireland for tonight's clash between Sligo Rovers and Dundalk in the Airtricity Premier Division.
Sligo Rovers are just one point and a place above their visitors from the north east, residing in fifth spot. The Bit O'Red have been decent at home this season, smashing six past Drogheda United and five against Bray Wanderers.
Scoring goals isn't a problem for this side as they've notched 35, putting them just one behind the leading hot-shots St. Patrick's Athletic who top the league.
Dundalk's European ambitions came to a premature end after being thumped 8-0 on aggregate by Levski Sofia.
Losing five of the last six doesn't bode well for a trip to the west of Ireland and manager Ian Foster will be concerned that his side have scored just once during that dismal run. The Lilywhites have lost four of their last five away games in the league.
Both sides are missing several players through a combination of injuries (Dundalk) and suspensions (Sligo), but one man who is set to start is Padraig Amond. Sligo's top-scorer and the league's top marksman with 15, will be looking to add to his tally on Saturday night.
Historically matches between these sides produce plenty of goals. Four of the last six encounters have gone over 2.5 and with so many players out missing we could be in for another feast.
* Back Sligo to win at 1.74. The Showgrounds will be jumping and it's a tough place to get a result at the best of times.
* Over 2.5 goals (small stake) at 1.88
Match Odds: Sligo Rovers 1.74, Draw 3.30, Dundalk 4.16
Yesterday's Tip
Our friendly fun ran out as QPR and Plymouth Argyle played out a 1-1 draw with the Londoners grabbing a late equaliser. In other friendly news Catania's game with Iraklis was abandoned after a fight broke out. Incredibly, that's the second game in a week in Italy to be called off after Cagliari's match with Bastia developed into a brawl. Friendlies eh? No such thing.
