This summer's World Cup has yet to live up to the expectations, as the attacking teams have struggled to break through the defences of the more defensive minded squads.

The top 10 of the 2010 World Cup Castrol Index after Matchday 1 perfectly illustrates this feat, as defenders and shot-stoppers dominate the top 10.

Argentina's Gabriel Heinze tops the list following his exploits in the Albiceleste's 1-0 win against Nigeria, ahead of Chile defender Waldo Ponce and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Paraguay's Antolin Alcaraz, who scored the opener in his side's 1-1 draw against Italy, and Netherlands full-back Gregory van der Wiel complete the top five. Chile's defensive midfielder Gary Medel is sitting joint fifth.

South Korea goalkeeper Jung Sung Ryong and his team-mates Lee Jung-Soo and Park Ji-Sung also find themselves back in the top 10, while Argentina centre-back Martin Demichelis has also somewhat surprisingly made the cut.

Manchester United star Park Ji-Sung is the only attack-minded player in the top 10 following his impressive performance for the Asians in their 2-0 win against Greece.

The Castrol Index uses objective analysis and highly advanced technology to measure every pass, tackle and move on the field and assess whether it has a positive or negative impact on a team's ability to score or concede a goal.
