Administrators move to reassure Rangers fans over future of the club
Global support for the financially-crippled Scottish champions could prove crucial in fight for survival as accountants insist Saturday's home with Kilmarnock will go ahead

The accountants who have taken over the running of Scottish giants Rangers have moved to reassure the club’s supporters over the future of the debt-laden Ibrox club.
The Scottish Premier League champions have been placed into administration due to spiralling debts and fears have been voiced about its long-term viability, with the Inland Revenue being owed £75 million by the Glasgow club.
However, Rangers’ London-based administrators Duff and Phelps, who have been put in charge of the club’s day-to-day running, say that they will do everything to safeguard its future.
“My message to Rangers supporters is that the administrators are totally committed to the future of Rangers,” Richard Merrin, of Duff and Phelps, told Goal.com.
“That has been absolutely clear on every communication that we have put out. We are trying our best to make sure that everyone comes out of this in one piece.
“The administrators are in there and they are doing their very best to work out a solution for the club and for the future of Rangers over the next couple of years - they are doing everything they can.”
Merrin also allayed fears that Rangers would be unable to fulfil their fixtures after doubts were raised over whether they could afford the policing costs for Saturday’s visit to Ibrox of Kilmarnock.
“They will be playing their game this weekend and that is absolutely confirmed,” Merrin stated.
“At this stage the match is on this Saturday, the police are all confirmed. It is business as usual. We just have to work through the next couple of weeks."
Merrin also stated that he has buoyed by the club's global support since his company took over on Monday.
“The stature of the club is a critical thing. It is over 100 years old as a football club,” Merrin added.
“It is a massive institution and is one of the best-known and best-supported football clubs in the world.
“Football fans are absolutely passionate about their clubs so the levels of support for Rangers that have become evident have not taken us by surprise at all.
“We were fully expecting this and we fully understand it but it is going to be that passion that will help things progress over the next couple of months as things pan out over the administration process.
“And from the fans’ perspective, having someone like Ally McCoist as manager must give them cause for optimism about the future.”
