Ally McCoist looking to add to Rangers squad before Champions League qualifier this week

Before the Ibrox club's campaign gets under way against Malmo, their manager is still looking to boost their squad after a 1-1 draw with Hearts in their SPL opener
Rangers manager Ally McCoist has said he is looking to add to his squad before the club begins their Champions League campaign against Malmo.

McCoist watched his side draw 1-1 with Hearts in the opening weekend of the SPL, and now he is keener than ever to secure a transfer before their midweek game against the Swedish club.

McCoist told reporters after the game: "I've made no secret of the fact and we are all aware that we hope to bring one or two players in.

"If we can get them in beforehand, we will only have one of them who can play on Tuesday.

"If we get them in before the game, that would be great. We are certainly hoping to do that.''

McCoist has been linked to Palermo defender Dorin Goian, but he was keen to point out that signing Goian would not end his interest in former Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar.

He said: "I'm ruling nothing out and I'm ruling nobody out.

“We need players, plural, so I wouldn't rule anybody out.''

Despite a disappointing 1-1 draw for the reigning SPL champions, McCoist is hopeful his side will be ready for Malmo in their Champions League qualifier, adding: "We have had a 1-1 draw against a team who are quite good to be fair and who are a lot of peoples' favourites to finish at least third in the league.

"I don't think I'll have to lift anybody.  It will just be a matter of getting them regrouped.''
