Honduras striker Georgie Welcome on trial with Rangers
Walter Smith to assess forward who featured in three World Cup group games
By Chris Davie
Welcome plays for Deportivo Montagua in the Honduran league. He has won 17 caps and scored three goals for his country.
The 25-year-old featured as a substitute in all three of Honduras’ World Cup group games.
Rangers have said that Welcome is unable to play in either of their upcoming friendly matches against Clyde and Newcastle United because he does not yet have a work permit.
“Georgie Welcome will be coming to join us next week on trial,” Rangers' assistant manager Ally McCoist told the club's official website.
“We can’t play him in any games because of the work permit situation but we can look at him training.
“We’ll see what happens and take it from there.”
