Australia international Craig Moore has announced his retirement from professional football.

The central defender has ended a career that saw him make 52 appearances for his country, including two World Cup campaigns.

At club level the 34-year-old played for Rangers, Crystal Palace, Borussia Moenchengladbach, Newcastle United, Brisbane Roar and Kavala, though the highlight of his career was undoubtedly his performance during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

''I'm hanging up the boots and looking to explore other avenues,'' Moore told Fairfax.

''I'm looking to do my coaching badges in…September and that's probably going to be the direction that I'll look to take.

"I had offers from China, Korea, Hong Kong and Australian clubs, but for me the hunger to play… is gone.''
