Gianluca Zambrotta has joined Swiss Challenge League side FC Chiasso for the 2013/14 season, with the option for a second year.
The 36-year-old, who played his last game in May of 2012 for Milan, will take on the role of assistant coach with the club, in addition to continuing his illustrious playing career.
“FC Chiasso has the pleasure of announcing we have reached an agreement with Mr. Gianluca Zambrotta for the 2013/14 season with an option for 2014/15. In addition to the role of player, he has joined the coaching staff as an assistant,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
Chiasso play in Switzerland's second tier, and begun their latest campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Vaduz last Sunday.
Zambrotta has won eight major trophies during spells with Juventus, Barcelona and AC Milan, and lifted the World Cup with Italy in 2006.
