Bayern won't always play world-class football, warns Sammer

The FCB sporting director has stressed that it will be nearly impossible for the Bundesliga leaders to play consistently at their highest level
Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer feels people cannot expect the Bavarians to be on top of their game in every match.

The Bundesliga leaders impressed in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Juventus on Tuesday, but Sammer has stressed that it is simply possible to play every match with the same intensity.

"We can't always show as much aggression as we did on Tuesday, and we won’t always play world-class football," Sammer was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

However, the Bayern director insists the team must adopt the right attitude in every match irrespective of the quality of their play, and pointed to the success of Barcelona as a blueprint for his side.

"We can always have world-class discipline and organisation, and the team has to learn that. We can't only sparkle when we're playing power football," he continued.

"For the last five years, Barcelona have played an unimaginable standard of football with an almost identical team. And they've won lots of trophies, which we have yet to do."
