The former attacker, now trainer of Bulgarian side Litex, has denied accusations of verbal abuse towards official Bogomil Marinov, and stated that he has a tolerant attitude
The retired attacker was notorious for his temperamental attitude towards officials during his playing career, and the accusations hardly raised any eyebrows in his native country.
However, the 46-year-old has maintained his innocence, and pointed out that he even complimented Marinov on television after the 1-0 win over Slavia Sofia earlier this month.
"I learned from the sport sites about Marinov's accusations towards me," Stoichkov told Litex Lovech's official website.
"I do not want to comment on groundless accusations. I will only say that since I have taken over at Litex my attitude has become much more scrupulous and tolerant in comparison to when I was an active player.
"I do not hide that in the past I was much more temperamental towards them [the referees]. All my interviews before and after games prove my point. I have never disputed decisions or the behaviour of the referees.
"You can ask them - I have always greeted them, regardless of the result. I even complimented him [Marinov] on the air after the game against Slavia. This is it, the rest is speculation on which I do not wish to comment.
