Football legend Pele touched down in Gabon on Tuesday to grace the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations final of February 12 at the Amitie Stadium in Libreville, upon the invitation of Gabon’s president Ali Bongo.

The Gabonese leader had promised to provide a surprise for the final, after the Panthers were eliminated from the competition by Mali on Sunday.

But it is still unclear if Pele is meant to be that surprise, even though many local pundits believe so.

Brazil defeated Gabon 2-0 in an international friendly last November in Libreville, during the inauguration of the Stade Amitie where the 2012 Afcon final will be played.

This is not the first time Pele is visiting the central African country. In 1974, he was part of a squad from Brazilian club Santos, who played a friendly against the Gabon national team.
