Two Croatian football officials arrested in match-fixing probe
Uefa have intimated that they are ready to assist the Slavic nation towards making its next steps after the Croatian FA informed the body of two arrests on Thursday
By Livio Caferoglu
According to state news agency Hina, vice-president of the Croatian FA Zeljko Siric and head of the nation's referee commission Stjepan Djedovic were arrested on suspicion of fixing at least one match in its domestic leagues.
"Uefa is ready to assist in any investigation and we are closely monitoring the developments of this case," the European football governing body affirmed.
These latest bouts of arrests have followed up several in Europe, Africa and Asia, as the football family and law enforcement officials have recently stepped up their attempts to address corruption in the sport, which Fifa head of security Chris Eaton has since praised.
"Any action that helps the scourge of match-fixing is welcomed by Fifa," Eaton is quoted as saying in a telephone interview by Bloomberg.
Both the Croatian FA and Uefa have declined to comment further on the matter.
