Caf supports Sepp Blatter’s bid for Fifa re-election

The 53 members of the African group have been sanctioned to vote for the incumbent president of world football's governing body, with voting to take place June 1
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) endorsed the candidature of incumbent Fifa president Sepp Blatter for re-election after an executive committee meeting in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.

A vote by the executive committee led to a majority decision to back the Swiss for another term.

The Issa Hayatou-led body has exhorted “all Caf member associations to vote M. Joseph Sepp Blatter" in a statement posted on its official website.

The Fifa election will take place in Zurich on June 1, when the 208 member associations will vote for a new president.

Blatter is facing opposition from Mohamed Bin Hammam, the head of the Asian confederation. The 75-year-old now has the support of European, South American and Oceania confederations.
