Andy Carroll drops to the bench for Liverpool's League Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City, with Sergio Aguero also starting as a substitute.
Kenny Dalglish has opted to start with Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy in attack, with Carroll and Maxi Rodriguez offering alternative options from the bench.
Stewart Downing replaces Maxi in the starting line-up in one of only two changes from the 3-1 Premier League defeat to Bolton last Saturday.
Meanwhile, Roberto Mancini has decided to play Edin Dzeko as his only out-and-out striker from the start, after City decided not to appeal Mario Balotelli's four-game ban which was sanctioned by the Football Association following the Italian's stamp on Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker on Sunday.
Mancini has also made two changes from the side that snatched a last-gasp win over Tottenham, as Nigel de Jong and Aleksandar Kolarov come in for Aguero and James Milner.
Liverpool have a one-goal advantage from the first leg after Steven Gerrard settled the clash at the Etihad Stadium with a penalty.
The winner of this tie will face Cardiff City at Wembley in the final, after their penalty shootout victory over Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.
