TEAM NEWS: Andy Carroll & Luis Suarez start as Liverpool make eight changes for Stoke City League Cup clash

Steven Gerrard misses out completely for the Reds while Potters boss Tony Pulis has made five changes from the side that lost 3-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has made eight changes from the side that drew with Norwich City at the weekend with both Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll starting for the League Cup last 16 tie at Stoke City.

Steven Gerrard is not included in the squad while Lucas Leiva does return to the starting XI to partner Jay Spearing in central midfield.

Uruguayan centre-back Sebastian Coates starts only his second game for the Reds having previously featured in the last round of the League Cup away at Brighton - a game which Liverpool won 2-1.

For Tony Pulis' side, Kenwyne Jones replaces Peter Crouch in attack while 22-year-old Ryan Shotton is given the nod and Jonathan Woodgate returns in defence.

Stoke City starting XI: Sorensen; Huth, Shawcross, Woodgate, Shotton; Delap, Whelan, Wilson, Etherington; Walters, Jones.
