thumbnail Hello,

The Blues midfielder has revealed that his club yearns for success in all competitions this year, and is hoping for an impressive start to this year's Carling Cup

Everton begin their quest for League Cup glory on Wednesday with a second round match against League One's Sheffield United at Goodison Park and Blues midfielder Jack Rodwell has revealed his club are confident they can make a massive impact in the domestic knockout competitions this year.

After participating in the Everton team that reached the FA Cup final in 2009, Rodwell has admitted that he and his team-mates are eager to reach similar heights in this year's competitions.

Speaking to the club's official website, Rodwell explained: “Obviously it was only a couple of years ago we reached the FA Cup final and that was a great experience for us and the supporters.

“We would love to be able to give them another day out like that.

“I have got some great cup memories already, some important goals and the cup final was one of the best days of my life as it had been my dream to play a final at Wembley."

Rodwell added: “We obviously don’t want to talk ourselves up too much but we are quietly confident we could do something in the cups.

“Sheffield United won’t be easy – cup games are never easy and we won’t be taking anything for granted.

“But we can’t wait for the game and we want to put into practice what we didn't do on Saturday.”

Rodwell has admitted his side were left dismayed following an abundance of missed chances in Saturday's defeat to QPR. However, he explained that the loss will be used as motivation for a better performance against Sheffield United.

He explained: “If we ever lose games we always want to put it right straight away.

"Saturday was not what we wanted or what we expected, but that is football and it is important we get it out of our systems as soon as possible.

“We were expecting to win the game and when you look back at the chances we had – I should have scored and Tim [Cahill] had a couple – on another day if they go in then we win by two or three.

“But we always stick together and never get on each other’s back and we always feel that attitude will get us through anything.”
