Arsenal - Ipswich Town special: Will League Cup glory be the only 'Jewell' in Arsene Wenger's season?

A look at the odds ahead of Wednesday's semi-final
Match Odds: Ipswich Town 8.50, Draw 5.0, Arsenal 1.33 (William Hill)

You are unlikely to find a longer set of odds for a competitive semi-final of a cup competition this year. Freshly thumped Ipswich Town are a whopping 8.50 to win at home against League Cup favourites Arsenal.

After dispatching of Roy Keane the Tractor Boys were spanked 7-0 by another London club, Chelsea, over the weekend. The omens don't look good for new manager Paul Jewell who will be watching tonight's game from the stands.

The Gunners are marginally better value to win the Carling Cup (1.50) than they are to win at Portman Road this evening. Odds of 1.33 are far too short unless you are planning to stick a fortune on it.

Arsene Wenger is missing several of his defenders because of injuries/suspensions and has been linked with another loan move for Sol Campbell. Clean sheets on the road aren't an Arsenal speciality this season with just four from a possible 16.

Combine this with Ipswich's inability to keep goals out (three clean sheets in 20 matches) and a 0-0 doesn't look on the cards. Even if Arsenal dish out another beating Ipswich are capable of getting on the mark at some point.

* Both teams to score @ 1.91

Although they were battered by Chelsea you can be sure Ipswich will want to avoid a similar scoreline in front of their watching new manager. They could frustrate Arsenal for 45 minutes at least.

* Half-time draw @ 2.50

The Pick

* Arsenal (-1 handicap) @ 1.80

* Both teams to score @ 1.91

The Conservative

* Arsenal to win second half @ 1.60

The Outsider

* Arsenal (-4 handicap) @ 14.0

Rupert Wyman, William Hill Sportswriter

"The Arsenal/Arsenal double result is 1.80 and if Arsenal score an early goal, they could put at least five or six past Ipswich.

"For Ipswich consider Connor Wickham.  He is being chased by all the top teams in England and Arsene Wenger has been linked with a summer swoop for the wonder kid. He is 6.0 to score anytime and he is sure to play a part in the game."
