The Portuguese has conceded that both Sevilla and Valencia have proven themselves strong at home but the former forward feels the Bianconeri are the best side left in the cup
The former Eagles forward, who now holds an advisory role at the Estadio da Luz, acknowledged that their other possible opponents, Sevilla and Valencia, both proved this week that they are formidable at home, with the Spanish duo having overturned first-leg deficits against Porto and Basel respectively.
However, Gomes feels that two-time defending Serie A champions Juventus, who are being driven on by the prospect of lifting the trophy in their own stadium, are the best side left in the Europa League.
"Maybe it was the strongest team among those possible, but the Spanish teams are also very strong on home turf," he is quoted as saying by A Bola.
"The most important thing, though, is to be in the semi-finals for the third time.
"It will be a difficult game but we have a 50 per cent chance. We will work to be present in the final.
"'The goal is to still be fighting on all fronts until the end and we will do everything to celebrate this year."
Benfica, who were beaten by Chelsea in last year's Europa League final, are bidding for a quadruple, as they are currently top of the Primeira Liga and already through to the last four of both the Taca de Portugal and the Taca da Liga.
