thumbnail Hello,

The Dutchman officiated the first leg of the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund and has now been rewarded for his composed showing

Uefa has chosen Bjorn Kuipers as the man to take charge of Wednesday's Europa League final between Chelsea and Benfica at the Amsterdam Arena.

The Dutchman has officiated in the Champions League on a regular basis this season, most recently refereeing the first leg of the semi-final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Kuipers has only taken charge of one Europa League match this season, a round-of-32 encounter between Liverpool and Zenit St Petersburg, but Uefa is confident that he is the right man for the job.

His impressive CV includes matches in the Champions League, Europa League, Euro 2012, the 2009 Uefa Under-21s Championship and the 2006 Under-17s finals.

He becomes the first official to be awarded a final in his home country since Italian Tullio Lanese in 1991.
