The American failed when Fulham made the final in 2010, but with the quality of his new Spurs side, the midfielder thinks they can go all the way and lift the European prize

Tottenham midfielder Clint Dempsey has signalled his intent to lead his new team to Europa League glory come the end of the season.

Dempsey, a £6 million summer signing, was part of the Fulham side that lost out to Atletico Madrid in the final of the 2010 competition, but feels this Spurs side has all the ability to go one better this time around.

"It was tough for us [Fulham] to get all the way and not win the final, but it was a great experience and I'm sure everyone on that team will remember it," Dempsey told ESPN.

"We had luck then and we need that now, but we do have a lot of quality in this team. As long as everyone is working hard and focused, you always have a chance."

New boss Andre Villas-Boas added six players to his squad during the summer and Dempsey feels the squad's strength in depth can help Spurs challenge domestically and in Europe.

"And with the quality we have, I can't see why we can't go all the way and win it. You get to play against some of the best clubs in Europe. That's why we are all excited about the possibility of going on a run and doing something special," he added.

"This club deserves to be in the Champions League really as they finished fourth last year. It was only because of a technicality that they didn't."

Clint Dempsey has five goals in 12 games for Tottenham so far, and is expected to feature from the start in the match against Panathinaikos.
