Chivu: Europa League is in Inter's sights

The Romanian defender is pinning his hopes on European glory next term, as nobody at the club wants another season like the one they experienced in 2011/12
Cristian Chivu insists Inter will take the Europa League seriously as they aim to go all the way in the competition next season.

The Nerazzurrienjoyed a difficult 2011/12, forced to settle for a sixth-placed finish in the Serie A table, but the Romanian is determined to not endure a repeat performance of the past campaign.

"We'll try to do our best in the Europa League. We want to go all the way and we have Atletico Madrid as an example," the defender told Inter Channel.

"They started from the preliminary rounds and went on to win the tournament.

"First of all no, one wants to go through another season like last year; sometimes a bad year can make you see how important it is when things go well.

"It's important that the younger players understand this, using our past achievements as an example.

"Then, with all of our experience, we can try and give them an idea of the enthusiasm, the strength and sacrifice that went into those achievements."

Chivu, 31, recently penned a new deal with Inter until June 2015.
