The Argentine feels that his former club were worthy victors against Athletic Bilbao, and hopes that they can follow it up by winning the European Super Cup
Diego Simeone's men cruised to a 3-0 win over the Basque club in Bucharest earlier in May thanks to a brace from Radamel Falcao and a late Diego strike.
Aguero, who was the hero when Atletico won the Europa League in 2010, has branded them worthy victors, and says that he hopes they can follow it up with a victory in the Super Cup in August.
"They deserved to win the Europa League," he said according to AS. "The players deserved to win, and hopefully they can give the fans more joy with the European Super Cup."
Aguero is currently on international duty with Argentina, where he has to compete with stellar names such as Gonzalo Higuain and Lionel Messi for a starting spot up front.
However, despite the competition for a first-team berth, he maintains that he is good friends with his rivals.
"We all get along very well. We'll continue to train, and let him [coach Alejandro Sabella] decide the line up," he concluded.
